Birth and Early Life :
Neem Karoli Baba, originally named Lakshman Narayan Sharma, was born in the year 1900 in the village of Akbarpur, located in the Firozabad district of Uttar Pradesh, India. His father, Durga Prasad Sharma, was a respected landlord. Even as a child, Lakshman displayed a spiritual inclination. Though he was married at the teen age of 11, he soon distanced himself from worldly attachments, choosing instead the path of renunciation.
Spiritual Awakening and Devotion :
When Baba Neem Karoli was a teenager, he left his home to search for a deeper meaning in life. By the time he was 17, people believe he found divine wisdom and became a devoted follower of Lord Hanuman. He spent many years traveling across India, living in quiet places and focusing on spiritual practices. Baba’s teachings were simple but full of deep truth, and he helped many people on their spiritual path. Over time, he became known not only for his deep devotion but also for the many miracles people said he performed.
The Kainchi Dham and Other Ashrams :
One of the most well-known spiritual places connected to Baba Neem Karoli is the Kainchi Dham Ashram, in the Nainital district of Uttarakhand. Baba first came there in 1961, and with his close follower Purnanand Ji, he planned to build the ashram. Today, this place is loved by many for its peaceful and holy feeling. It has several statues of Lord Hanuman, and many devotees believe that Baba himself was an incarnation of Hanuman Ji.
Passing and Legacy :
Neem Karoli Baba passed away on September 11, 1973, in Vrindavan. Even though he is no longer physically present, his teachings and stories continue to inspire many people. Miracles stories of Maharaj Jee:
Once, Neem Karoli Baba was sitting on a train without a ticket. The conductor asked him to get off, and the train stopped at the next station. Baba got off, and the train started to move,but suddenly it stopped and wouldn’t start again.
People tried everything, but the train wouldn’t move. Someone said, “Call that sadhu back.” They brought Baba back onto the train and right after he sat down, the train started moving again!
People believed it was a miracle, and they built a temple for him at that station.
2. Healing the sick :
Many people came to Baba when they were sick or in pain. One time, a boy who was very ill was brought to him. Baba just looked at the boy, gave him some food (prasad), and said, “He will be fine.” Soon after, the boy recovered, even though doctors had given up hope.
3. Baba saves a son in the war :
During one of the wars (many say it was the 1971 war), a devotee of Neem Karoli Baba came to him in deep sadness. The man's son was a soldier and had gone to fight in the war. The family had just received a message saying their son was missing , possibly even dead.
The father was heartbroken and went to Neem Karoli Baba for help.
He cried and begged, “Baba, please save my son! I don’t know where he is, I don’t even know if he’s alive.”
Baba listened calmly. He closed his eyes for a moment, then smiled and said, “Don’t worry. He’s safe. He will come back.”
The father couldn’t believe it, but he trusted Baba’s words.
A few days later, the family got another message — the son had been found alive, safe, and returning home. He had been caught behind enemy lines but somehow escaped unharmed, which seemed like a miracle.
The family believed it was Baba’s blessing that saved their son. The soldier himself later said he felt like some invisible power protected him during the battle.
4. He knows everything without being told :
Baba often knew things about people without them saying a word. A man came to see him with a question in his heart, but didn’t say it out loud. Baba suddenly said the exact answer the man was thinking of. The man was shocked and started crying, he knew Baba had read his mind and heart.
5. Baba turns water into Ghee :
Once, during a big festival at Baba's ashram, many people had gathered. The devotees were preparing food for thousands — especially prasad (blessed food) like halwa and puris, which need a lot of ghee (clarified butter) for cooking.
Suddenly, the people realised that they had run out of ghee! There was no time to go out and get more, and the food couldn’t be made without it.
They worried what to do now then the devotees ran to Neem Karoli Baba and said,
“Baba, there is no ghee left! What should we do?”
Baba calmly said, “Use water.”
They were shocked. “Water? But Baba, we can’t cook halwa or puris in water!”
But Baba just smiled and said again, “Go. Use water. It will work.”
Though confused, the devotees obeyed. They poured water into the big cooking pots as Baba had said… and to their amazement, the water turned into ghee!
They were able to cook all the food, and everyone was fed. There was no shortage, and the food was delicious — full of taste and love.
