Abdul Rauf Azhar,IC-814 Hijacking Plotter Killed in Operation Sindoor:

On May 8, 2025, India reported a significant military operation, called "Operation Sindoor 2.0," during which it claimed to have neutralized a Pakistani missile attack aimed at 15 Indian cities and destroyed a key air defense system in Lahore. This escalation marks a critical point in the ongoing India-Pakistan tensions, which have been intensifying since the April 22 terrorist attack in Indian-administered Kashmir that killed 28 civilians, mostly Hindu tourists. India attributes this attack to Pakistan-based militants, a claim Pakistan denies .

The Missile Threat and India Response:

According to Indian officials, Pakistan launched a coordinated missile and drone strike targeting multiple cities, including Amritsar, in northern and western India. These missiles were reportedly intercepted by India's S-400 air defense system, known as "Sudarshan Chakra," marking its first combat deployment. The S-400 system successfully neutralized the incoming threats, preventing potential casualties and damage.

Destruction of Pakistan's Air Defence System:

In return,India conducted Suppression of Enemy Air Defenses (SEAD) and Destruction of Enemy Air Defenses (DEAD) operations, targeting and reportedly neutralizing Pakistan's air defense systems in Lahore. These operations were aimed at degrading Pakistan's ability to launch further aerial attacks, thereby restoring air superiority in the region.

The military exchanges resulted in civilian casualties on both sides. Pakistan reported the death of 31 civilians due to Indian missile strikes and artillery shelling, while India confirmed the death of 15 civilians from Pakistani artillery fire. The violence has led to widespread fear and displacement among civilians, particularly along the Line of Control in Kashmir.

International reactions have been swift, with calls for de-escalation from various global leaders. The United States, European Union, and other nations have urged both India and Pakistan to exercise restraint and engage in dialogue to prevent further escalation. Despite these appeals, both countries have maintained firm positions, with India emphasizing its right to self-defense and Pakistan vowing to retaliate against what it termed "cowardly attacks" on civilians.

Conclusion:

Operation Sindoor 2.0 marks a significant development in the India-Pakistan conflict, demonstrating the complexities of modern warfare and the high stakes involved. While both nations assert their actions were in response to provocations, the civilian toll and the risk of further escalation underscore the urgent need for diplomatic engagement and conflict resolution. The international community continues to monitor the situation closely, hoping for a return to dialogue and peace between the two nations.
